Background information was gathered from a search of http://vlex.com/vid/20032890 and a 1909 article from The New York Times. (http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=1&res=9902E5DA1439E733A25754C1A9679C946897D6CF&oref=slogin) Mr. Selling was a Detroit lawyer who argued cases before both the Circuit Court of the U.S. Eastern District of Michigan and the U.S. Supreme Court. He served on a Committee appointed by the Association of the Bar of the City of Detroit. He was a member of Ferguson & Goodnow law firm. The New York Times article of January 17, 1909 states that Mr. Selling was a delegate from Detroit to the 21st Council of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. The convention included the dedication of Isaac M. Wise Memorial Window at Keneseth Israel Synagogue. The Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree was conferred on Mr. Selling during Commencement, University of Detroit, June 21, 1916.
